A homely place in Rotterdam centrum-west where people come to read, meet, work or just chill. The space can als be used for special events. Books are all kindly donated and most of them can be taken home for free.
There’s a free internet and the friendly volunteers serve you coffee or tea for €0,50.

Beautiful place with many genres and languages of books. The atmosphere is really nice as well and there are various sitting spots around. The people there are friendly as well 🙂

The books are well arranged and it was easy to find the section that is best suited for us.

Each individual can borrow/bring home a book that interests them and they can donate books that are suitable as well.

Cute place to read a book or for a lecture/event.

  • Lennart van Nieuwenhuijzen

A place that inspires people to read, providing free access to a huge collection of books. Free to take and bring books. A beautiful example of the social structure that defines the best parts of Rotterdam. Needs and deserves all the support we can give it!

Nice alternative to Blaak bibliotheek for those who want to study some Nederlands (:

Geweldig. Duizenden gratis boeken. Je kan er ook boeken inleveren overigens. Ook om de kletsen met andere buurtgenoten.

I am not quite sure how to react to other reviews here.

It seems Marlowe Castagna isn’t 100% satisfied with the “Leeszaal” experience (Scroll up or down for his review). There is no reason to think he is exaggerating or making stuff up. I usually just go in there, grab a book about a subject I happen to be interested in and leave. Sometimes I ask if they really don’t care about getting the book back. That’s it.

I think many people here are not 100% enlightened. Younger people are older people are not. It will get better eventually.

Leftover books? Drop them off for others to read. Looking for something to read? Browse through what they have, and take it home with you. No need to become a member, and you don’t even need to return the books. 😉

Wonderful place. But “Reading Rotterdam West” cannot be considered proper English… Why not call it Book Hall Rotterdam West?
