We have just moved in in the neighborhood and that was our first choice of a dinner. Could have not chosen better! Food was delicious, atmosphere fantastic, super kind service… I can go on but let me simply recommend you that place so you can experience it all yourself 🙂
I love the food here, it’s so tasty. If you choose a standard dish, the food is very good value but you can also go all out and choose the mixed dish where you can try a few different dishes together, this is €28 but great way to try new things if you’re not sure what to order. The portions are really huge and I could take my leftovers home with me. The staff and atmosphere are very nice too.
Great African restaurant experience! Easy reservation, ideal for large groups, charming decor. Delicious Jassa and Soqhar, perfect for spice lovers. Ice cream dessert was superb. Menu lacking photos, but mango beer is a must-try! Overall, highly recommended!
One of the best restaurants I have visited! The food is so tasty that we keep coming back to this restaurant. The atmosphere and the staff are also great. Highly recommended!
VIVA AFRIKA one of the best dinning experiences I’ve had!
Friends and I recently dined at viva Afrika and can highly recommend it for everyone and anyone. If you have not experienced African cuisine…go here!, if you are versed in African cuisine…go here!! Service is friendly, informed and everything is done with a smile. The food is extremely tasty, excellently cooked and beautifully displayed.
Great place! Thank you Viva Afrika. I’ll be seeing you again next time we are in Rotterdam!
Beautifully presented and tasty Ethiopian food. Vegan friendly and the for two can easily feed 3. The spinach, tomato purée and lentils were gorgeous. Staff was happy to have us there.
This was my first time at an African restaurant so I did not know what to expect.
My companions were the knowledgeable ones so I just went along with their choices, and suggestions.
I got myself a great and tasty beer with mango flavor, which reminded me a lot to a “Radler beer”, but just with mango instead of lemon. I got the idea that it might have a limited stock or it has high demand because as I asked for it they had to check if they still had in stock.
The food arrived not long after ordering, we got one of those big trays with many small plates and casseroles, plus some extra “bread”, the base of the tray had also bread as a base. Actually, it is not bread, it is like a soft and fluffy pancake.
Now, the fun parts behind, you eat with your hands using the bread as your cutlery. I enjoyed this part, things feel simpler when you don’t need more than your hands to eat. Although I could understand that this could be weird for some people, do it for the experience.
Food was enough for three people (actually we order for three but we could have order for two). I think depends on your group, and how much each person eats of course. No brainer here. Everything was delicious, and we couldn’t finish everything.
Great service, friendly staff and in this case we tip them, usually in the Netherlands you just don’t, but in this case they deserved it.
Payments accepted in cash and card.
I would definitely recommend it and would go again!
Highly recommended! The walls inside are so pretty, the vibe was just amazing! I think it’s a family business, where you would see a small girl is also helping, how cute!
They really wanted customers to experience their culture so most of the dishes are served without cutlery, but they would be more than happy to provide you folks/spoons/knives on request.
Perfect. Service, atmosphere, and the foooood🤤🤤
Also their beers are awesome
Very surprising. My first time eating real African food and I loved it. We took the big two person platter with a variety of dishes, including fish, beef, chicken, lentils and pumpkin, all of which had a unique delicious flavour. As a starter we had the bamba saté, which is crocodile meat, very nice but sadly not a lot for the price. They also have some fun local and even African beers!
The atmosphere was great and the staff is super friendly. Recommended to anyone who is not afraid to eat food with their hands. (by using flatbread as your cutlery)
Fantastic East African restaurant (Ethiopia & Eritrea) – Lovely decoration, stylish, African and Classy. Friendly staff and tasty food. Totally forgot to take pictures of the food but got the deco!
First time I actually rate a restaurant. But this is just amazing.
The vibe, the looks and the service is just lovely.
And i didn’t even talked about the food😉.
It’s great!
I’ve loved everything about this place! The service is very friendly and helpful, they have special biers from different countries in Africa, the food is absolutely delicious, spicy and full of flavor! Huge portions!
Love love love this place! The food is always amazing. They have loads of vegetarian/vegan options as well
The Heweswas for 2 people is highly recommended and comes in
a large serving for 2 people with a side of enjera. Taste was great and so was the presentation. The place capture the vibe perfectly with the african theme. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Only complaint was the thin and small glass of mango (you dont get alot), they really should do something about the portion. Love this place, cant wait to go back
The music, the setting, the staff and service. It was our first time and we absolutely loved it! We will be back!
We were at Viva Afrika last weekend. We had a table reserved via their website, but generally, many tables for two people were available. We shared the vegetarian platter, which was amazing and frankly a bargain given what you can pay in some restaurants. The Restaurant is very nicely decorated and conveniently located, close to a Metro stop and the Depot / the Kunsthal. Only (very slight downside) to our visit was that we sometimes waited quite a bit, e.g., for getting a menu to order desserts. But it was definitely worth it, so I would highly recommend the restaurant!
Nice place. The decoration together with the music created a good atmosphere. The food was really nice and I enjoyed having vegetarian options.
Delicious food, excellent service and very very nice inside the restaurant, well decorated and clean, and one feels at home in Africa, my compliments!
I have to admit that I had never tried an African restaurant before coming here, so I was a bit skeptic at the beginning but… if you like food and if you like to try new things, definitely you have to came here.
The staff is not the friendliest but the food is worth it.
Ah, and… do not forget to eat with your hands! Here is one of the few places where you could do it without looking like a
chromanon.
